On the existence of efficient estimators

چکیده

The common signal processing problem of estimating some nonrandom parameters of a signal in additive noise is considered. The problem investigated in this paper is under what conditions an efficient estimator exists, i.e., an unbiased estimator with a variance equal to the Cramér–Rao lower bound (CRB). It is well known that if the signal is linear or, more generally, affine in the parameters and the noise Gaussian, an efficient estimator does exist. This paper shows that under some conditions, this is the only case where an efficient estimator exists.

On the Simple Inverse Sampling with Replacement

In this paper we derive some unbiased estimators of the population mean under simple inverse sampling with replacement, using the class of Hansen-Hurwitz and Horvitz-Thompson type estimators and the post-stratification approach. We also compare the efficiency of resulting estimators together with Murthy's estimator. We show that in despite of general belief, the strategy consisting of inverse s...

Efficient Simulation of a Random Knockout Tournament

We consider the problem of using simulation to efficiently estimate the win probabilities for participants in a general random knockout tournament. Both of our proposed estimators, one based on the notion of “observed survivals” and the other based on conditional expectation and post-stratification, are highly effective in terms of variance reduction when compared to the raw simulation estimato...

On Presentation a new Estimator for Estimating of Population Mean in the Presence of Measurement error and non-Response

Introduction According to the classic sampling theory, errors that are mainly considered in the estimations are sampling errors.  However, most non-sampling errors are more effective than sampling errors in properties of estimators. This has been confirmed by researchers over the past two decades, especially in relation to non-response errors that are one of the most fundamental non-immolation...

Realized Volatility in Noisy Prices: a MSRV approach

Volatility is the primary measure of risk in modern finance and volatility estimation and inference has attracted substantial attention in the recent financial econometric literature, especially in high-frequency analyses. High-frequency prices carry a significant amount of noise. Therefore, there are two volatility components embedded in the returns constructed using high frequency prices: the...

A Novel Multi-user Detection Approach on Fluctuations of Autocorrelation Estimators in Non-Cooperative Communication

Recently, blind multi-user detection has become an important topic in code division multiple access (CDMA) systems. Direct-Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS) signals are well-known due to their low probability of detection, and secure communication. In this article, the problem of blind multi-user detection is studied in variable processing gain direct-sequence code division multiple access (VPG D...

Penalized Estimators in Cox Regression Model

The proportional hazard Cox regression models play a key role in analyzing censored survival data. We use penalized methods in high dimensional scenarios to achieve more efficient models. This article reviews the penalized Cox regression for some frequently used penalty functions. Analysis of medical data namely ”mgus2” confirms the penalized Cox regression performs better than the cox regressi...
